Send your entire super to one place, one payment, one website, no charge and Medicare will disperse this to the correct superfunds for each of your employees.

Small businesses of 20 employees or less can take advantage of this free superannuation clearing house. This service is designed to decrease the time and compliance costs for small businesses when trying to pay their employee superannuation guarantees.

The option to choose a super fund under the superannuation guarantee started on 1 July 2005 and was extended in July 2006. Employers are required to make superannuation contributions into numerous different superannuation funds. This process is time-consuming and result in increased admin costs.
The Small Business Superannuation Clearing House (the Clearing house) is administered by Medicare Australia and lets employers pay their super contributions to a single location in one simple electronic transaction.

Employers simply register their employees' superannuation fund details then each Quarter (or Month) enter in the superannuation contributions with the Clearing House for processing. The Clearing House will distribute the super contributions to the employee funds.

The initial set up will take a little while but only needs to be done once.  You will never need to register with other superfunds...just add new employees.
In order to begin,  go to the  Medicare website and click on the Small Business Button  to go through the set up process for your employer registration.

In order to set up the employer registration section you will need to have your:

  • ABN
  • Email address
  • Contact person details
  • And be able to create security questions
  • BSB and Account number for business account
  • Default super fund Name, ABN and Spin Number

Once you have this information you can begin.

In conclusion, The Super Clearing House is very cost effective and helpful for most small businesses and is free to Small Businesses.  Who said good things don’t come for free.
